Some Zigbee modules have the possibility to be updated via OTA (Over The Air) to fix bugs or add features. This is the case with NodOn modules. To facilitate this, the French manufacturer has just announced its dedicated application: NodOn Connect.

The ability to update the firmware (internal software) of Zigbee products is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (formerly Zigbee Alliance). NodOn has made this choice to give its products a longer shelf life.

Most manufacturers do not offer this OTA update option or it requires a return to the manufacturer to perform this process. Others do offer this feature, but the update is only possible from their own Zigbee home automation box. Since NodOn is not a manufacturer of home automation boxes, it offers a universal solution for updating its modules.

The NodOn Connect application is therefore used to update NodOn's Zigbee range of modules. This means that the Multifunction, Lighting and Roller Shutter modules are eligible.

NODON CONNECT, HOW DOES IT WORK?

NodOn's Zigbee modules use their 2.4 GHz platform . They therefore have the option of connecting via Bluetooth. Therefore, the NodOn Connect application uses the smartphone's Bluetooth to scan the devices available in its vicinity. When a module is detected, the app displays the product type and its reference, as well as its current firmware version. The app also indicates if a newer version is available.
